The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Returning to the Big Screen Next Year

Go ninja, go ninja, go ninja, go, indeed. After a surprisingly successful theatrical re-release of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action film this past weekend, Fathom just announced that it’s bringing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze back to theaters in March 2026. Yes, you will be able to see Vanilla Ice performing “Ninja Rap” on the big screen once again. In addition, Fathom is extending the run of the original film through August 28. So, if you missed it in theaters last weekend, you can head back out and see it this week. To be fair, though, not a lot of people missed it last weekend. Fathom reports the 1990 film made a little over $3 million at the box office this weekend, which actually put it at #8 at the domestic box office, ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth and F1: The Movie. ”The devoted fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise have shown up in droves with so much passion and enthusiasm in celebration of the iconic film’s 35th anniversary, Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to extend its theatrical run for a third time and add an additional full week in select theatres until August 28,” Ray Nutt, Fathom Entertainment’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a press release. “Even better, we have confirmed with our partners that Fathom is bringing back the 1991 sequel to the big screen in March 2026. With more than $3 million in box office revenues in the early days of its theatrical return engagement. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 35th Anniversary is currently the highest-grossing 2025 classic/repertory film for Fathom Entertainment.” Here’s the teaser. As a very, very old person who saw all three of the original Ninja Turtles movies in the theater, I must admit, the Secret of the Ooze news kind of outshines the original. Not in terms of which film is better, though. The original film is clearly a better movie. But just in terms of camp and nostalgia, you can’t beat Secret of the Ooze. There’s Vanilla Ice but also Bebop and Rocksteady, Super-Shredder, so much good stuff. Get tickets for the current re-release over at Fathom. Want more io9 news?
